Information systems continuously improve, data is becoming more reliable and enterprise-wide spent on premium freight has become more transparent for large scale OEM’s and 1st tier suppliers. In the ongoing battle to make supply chains flow and take ‘waste’ out of the chain, true management of premium across the value chain has become increasingly important against traditional buying or benchmarking methods.
Even in today’s highly developed business environment, manual benchmarking practices up to individual shipment level is not an exception when adrandom there is a need for a premium shipment due to an unforeseen production crisis or change in demand. Where traditional sourcing methods aim to reduce buying cost per kilometer, generally seen the counter effect is that more ‘waste‘ is being pushed downwards in the hierarchy of the supply chain. New economy methods, however, aim for collaboration & digitalization by creating a common development path with a selective group of key & very innovative suppliers.
